“Now I Know…”

Roman recently made a powerful discovery. He came to me after Sunday school, his eyes gleaming with excitement. “I can read this!” he whispered holding up a Bible. “My teacher said if we were six or older we could read the verse. And I read it!” Although Roman is an advanced reader, at 6, this was the first time he had been offered the opportunity to read straight out of the Bible, and not from a children’s Bible story book.  He couldn’t wait to read more!

Later that evening before tucking Roman into bed, I listened in amazement as he read chapters 1 and 2 of the story of Jonah! He really can read the Bible. His eager determination to read God’s Word was a beautiful thing to witness. We talked about the story together and I prayed, before leaving the room.

As I reached the door Roman said, “Wait! I have something to pray for too.” So I turned around and sat down on the edge of his bed.

“What would you like to pray for?” I asked.

“That I can read the Bible, and know God better.” Was his simple reply. And so I sat and listened as he thanked God for the Bible, and that he could now read it for himself. “Mom, I learned a lot, reading that tonight.” he told me. “I mean I had heard that stuff before, but I just didn’t think it could all be true. Now I’ve read it for myself and I know it’s true!”
