Food, Water, and Shelter

Physically speaking the basic needs of every living thing are defined as follows: food, water, and shelter. This seems rather obvious. Without water we dehydrate and die. Without food we starve to death. Without shelter we are tormented by the elements and likely die. Death is the imminent result if these needs are denied.

Spiritually speaking our basic need may be defined as follows: Food, Water, and Shelter.

John 6: 33, 35

” For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world…    35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

John 4:10, 13

10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”   13 …Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

Psalm 61:3

For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy.

Without the Bread of Life we are spiritually dead. Without Living Water we have no everlasting life. And without our Shelter, we are tormented to death by the enemy of our souls. Jesus is the bountiful Supplier. He has likened Himself to each basic physical need, and offers to fill the Spiritual counterparts, as only He can. What complexity! What Design! What a Savior!
