Celebrating Today
I love this date–September 24. It carries deep personal meaning for me, for today Joel and I celebrate 20 years of marriage, and 24 years of being a couple. This day is rife with the nostalgia of precious memories and full of hope for future “memories”.
Every once in a while, God gives us the gift of a true glimpse of the “greener grass” that Satan, self, and the world boldly display on the other side of the fence. Recently, God gave me just such a glimpse. It was sobering to see the treacherous slope of that “greener grass,” and such a relief to feel God’s grip holding me steady on the path of His design. Without His grace I could be grieving today instead of celebrating.
But because of His faithfulness, because of His love in us, we delight to pass this milestone. And while some of the rose-tinting has been washed away by present realities, what is left is a sense of our desperate neediness for the God who binds up our wounds, who steadies our path, who gives joy in the mourning.
