The God of Hope

Our lawyer filed a motion on Thursday requesting that the judge clarify Joel’s paperwork to allow him to see the children. It will take about a week to hear the results of this motion. The judge has full right to deny, grant or require a hearing to acquire further details. The just path seems obvious to us. We pray it does to him too.

When I told the two older boys about the motion, they were understandably excited. Jaden said to me, “Doesn’t it seem obvious? I mean the judge should know that we ought to get to see dad, right?”

Yes it does. But the truth of the matter is, so many times the right path has seemed obvious to me, and it is so other than what actually happens. I place no hope in our legal system. I have no faith that what is right and just will actually be accomplished.

I have pondered whether or not telling the boys was a wise move. What if they get their hopes up only to have them dashed. But as I prayed about this God reminded me of one of his titles, “The God of all Hope….” Our hope isn’t in this legal system. Our hope is in God. We may be disappointed yet again, but we will not be without hope. Because no matter what is decided regarding this motion, we hope in a higher Judge. And “Shall not the Judge of the earth do right?”

The boys and I have had good opportunity to talk about our hope that this motion will be granted, and we will soon be together as a family, and how that is a good hope.  But our best hope is in the God of hope who gives us joy by the power of His Spirit, even as we wait.

  • Made me think of our kids’ memory verses about hope this wk – Ro 12:12 Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when trouble comes. Be faithful to pray. and Ro 15:13 I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace while you trust in Him. Then your hope will overflow by the power of the Holy Spirit. Praying for you guys!!!
