The Crown

During this Holy Week, I have been meditating on the Savior’s sacrifice for us.  On the cover of The Story video is a beautiful picture of a kingly crown with a crown of thorns reflected beneath it. This picture has given me much food for thought and the poem below is one of my meditations. How odd that the King of glory would wear a crown of thorns and subject Himself to such horror and yet in the process emerge Victor! How odd indeed! How very odd and very precious! What a King!

A crown of thorns,
What irony,
A crown of gold,
For a king should be.
To pronounce authority,
Not to cause pain,
To proclaim honor,
Not to bring shame.
Blood from the brow,
Oh what a sight,
Tears from your eyes,
In submission you fight.
Death for a king,
The price you pay,
To buy back your kingdom,
O glorious day!
The garments, the crown,
The charade is exposed,
For in death you conquer,
And from the grave you arose.
O crown of glory,
Now on your brow,
Honored your name is,
And before you we bow.
King of all kingdoms,
Savior and Lord,
Crowned before time.
Your glory restored.
