Steady My Heart

I have been listening to Kari Jobe’s latest album recently and finding it a soothing reminder of God’s ever-present hand in our lives. The chorus of her song, Steady My Heart says,

Even when it hurts
Even when it’s hard
Even when it all just falls apart
I will run to You
Cause I know that You are
Lover of my soul
Healer of my scars
You steady my heart

I feel like I’ve been living, Proverbs 13:22 “Hope deferred makes the heart sick.” But as I listen to the words to Kari’s song, I am reminded that my sickened heart can only find healing in Christ. He is the Healer of my scars, the Steadier of my heart. It is He, that works in me “giving me the desire and power to do what pleases Him,” (Phil. 2:13 NLT) even when I feel too heartsick to actually think for myself.

So this morning as I jogged through the neighborhood, feeling the heavy sickness of my heart as a weight I wasn’t sure I could bear for another day, I begged God to give me His desire and His power, to walk through today obeying Him by having an attitude of love and grace toward others, not one of self-pity and anger.  I asked Him to be the healer of my scars and the steadier of my heart. And He reminded me to choose His path by being thankful for all the ways He is taking care of us, and seeing His hand in our family’s very difficult journey.
