Rejoicing with Those That Rejoice

Many times on this journey you have wept with us as we’ve faced disappointment, discouragement, and yet another detour. Your kind prayers, words of comfort and encouragement, and thoughtful participation in our painful world have been a portrait to us of Jesus. Like Aaron and Hur on the mountain top you have held up our arms when our strength has failed. Thank you for weeping with us as we’ve wept!

This week has been a spiritually challenging one for me as we have waited to hear word from our lawyer on the motion set before the judge. The motion asked the judge to clarify Joel’s judgement to make it clear that he has permission to be with his own children. Since July, Joel has been prohibited any contact with them, because his judgement was not clear and the probation officer here in WI refused to allow him contact. Our grief as a family has reached a new level over this time period. So the wait these past couple of days has been intense for me. I have begged God for a tiny bit of insight into what the future holds. Each time I ask Him for a confidence that our motion would be granted, His answer has been the same. “You have me. I am good and I am enough for you.” Thus my conversations with God have been satisfying, while yet leaving me in a state of hopeful anticipation.

Yesterday as I was arriving to pick up the boys from school Joel called. He never calls in the middle of the day. I knew immediately he must have news from the lawyer. “It’s over,” Joel told me, his voice trembling. “The judge granted our motion!” Suddenly I was so choked up I could barely speak, and I had to sit down or risk falling down. The delight of that moment is a kind of delight I have not experienced in a very long time!

And so it is that today, I am overjoyed to invite you to rejoice with us. God has demonstrated His love and goodness to us yet again, by allowing the judge to grant our motion. At this point we are waiting for the probation officer to acknowledge receipt of the clarified judgement. We are hopeful he will do that quickly and we can spend time together as a family this week end!

“I will sing to the Lord, for He has been good to me.” Psalm 13:6
