Praising in the Wait

Our family is in a “holding pattern” yet again as we wait for a response from the motion issued last week by our lawyer. You’d think I would be used to these “waits” by now, but the truth is each one feels more weighty than the last. Hope is a dangerous precipice to stand upon, and yet hopelessness is an unthinkable abyss. One thing I continue to learn in these times of waiting is that worship brings rest. Meditating on my Savior’s goodness steadies my feet on the precipice. His peace fills in the crags of uncertainty and His presence brings unspeakable joy. He is in the waiting with me. And He is the one who controls all outcomes.

This morning in my reading of the Psalms I came across this verse: “I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.” (Psalm 13:6) This verse prompted me to write my own song (or poem really) of worship.

You are good to me in so many ways,
Your love shines forth over all of my days.
You care for my soul and bind up my scars,
You make your righteousness shine like the stars.
By your truth you have set me free,
I come before you now and fall to my knees.
My new name you hold in precious trust,
You breathe eternity into me though I am but dust.
You mark me as yours and my destiny is set,
You redeem even my darkest regrets.
You heal my wounds with tender grace.
My deepest longing is to gaze on your face.
In your presence is joy evermore,
The treasure of You is what I so long for.
Even in my pain your goodness shines through,
My heart would be shattered if I didn’t have you.
