On the Move

Joel received word just a few days ago that he has been accepted for transfer to the halfway house in Milwaukee, on June 28! Previously we had been told he would go to the halfway house in Janesville, just a little over an hour away from his aunt’s. So we were surprised to find out he will be going to Milwaukee. He will be just 6 miles from his aunt’s instead of over 70!  His application date was for the 21st of June, and he will not be placed till the 28th, but we are just thankful to have an official date for his release to halfway house.

Now I have some serious prayer requests to share regarding Joel’s transfer and our subsequent move:

1. Please pray that I will be able to find appropriate housing for us. There are several factors to consider. The two most important are: finding a place that is big enough and still affordable, finding a place that fits into the criteria of acceptable housing for Joel. (This sounds easy, but each municipality can have its own residency restrictions for sex offenders, and finding those precise restrictions is a bit tricky. Further, each place I am interested in renting will have to be checked individually to assure that it falls within the requirements.) This whole process is also a bit more difficult since I am moving over 1300 miles from where I am now, so looking at this point is impossible, although thanks to the internet I can get some information.

2. Please pray for the details to work out for me to go with Joel to Milwaukee from the prison. He will be released on the 26 to travel by bus or train and arrive in Milwaukee on the 28th. I am allowed to travel with him, so we are planning to take the train. My parents will take care of the boys while I go with Joel to Milwaukee. Then I will hopefully fly back to FL on the following Monday.

3. Please pray for us to know what to do with our house here in FL. As is typical in this market, we are upside down so if we were to sell it, it would have to be a short-sale. On the other hand, renting has pitfalls and advantages to consider.

4. Please pray for energy and wisdom as we sort and pack for this move. It is an overwhelming task, especially as I consider all the details I will be responsible for without Joel’s help! Thank God I have family here who will do everything they can to help.

5. Pray for finances for this move. Obviously, a move if this magnitude can be quite expensive even if we go simple, and I don’t have sufficient funds saved to cover it all.

6. Pray that my book is released BEFORE we have to move. When it comes out, I will be quite busy with publicity. I would like to be able to do that in May and June before the move.

Thank you for your loving support of our family! We are blessed to be in His hands, and wait with baited breath for His plan to unfold.
