He Satisfies

Psalm 14:16 is such a beautiful and compelling reminder of God’s generous love. “You open your hands and satisfy the desire of every living creature.”

I have always been very economical in my spending habits. As a matter of fact, somewhere along this road of life, I  developed the mentality that frugality is synonymous with godliness. “Waste not, want not” as the old adage so aptly exhorts! I am good at that. I am the queen of reducing and reusing. After all isn’t wastefulness bad? So the converse, pinching every penny must be good.

Of course there is an element of truth to this reasoning. But again, the trick of balance is in play. Because the truth is sometimes saving, reusing, pinching pennies becomes an obsession that obscures the beauty of Christ’s provision. It becomes about my own ability to take care of myself through many-varied and efficiant tactics. And I can never take care of myself, even when I am fooled into thinking I can.

God has recently reminded me of His extravagance in loving us. When we look to Him for satisfaction, He truly does satisfy. It’s no longer about how much time, money, or stuff I can save. Because I don’t find my satisfaction or security there. Instead I find it flowing from the throne of Christ. It is He who opens His hand, and satisfies me, with Himself.
