A Right Perspective

Today I was talking with Jaden about a couple promising housing options. Neither is exactly what I have been hoping for, but they each have their own set of good points. So I am in a quandary over which one is really the best option. Jaden and I discussed the pros and the cons from school zone options, to yard size, to the paint color on the walls. Then Jaden made this compelling comment: “Either one is going to be good, Mom. They both have their upsides.” I love that positive outlook. It reminded me again of how much God is doing and has done for us. He’s right. Neither is my ideal. But they both have their upsides. It is my choice to focus on those “upsides” and not on the “downsides.” (Which incidentally they both have as well.)

This move has been challenging. And there are days when I feel like, “What else, God? How can you expect me to take any more.” I usually can’t get that thought out of my head before I hear a soft rebuke. For truly we have faced some difficulties and some devastation. But though we are pressed at every side, we “are not destroyed.” The physical provisions that God has made for this time are only one reminder of His faithfulness. The kindness and support of His body, the prayers of His children, the comfort of His Word are all gifts beyond this world’s capacity to measure.  I find myself identifying with the Psalmist when he wrote, “As pressure and stress bear down on me I find strength in Your commands.” And, ” If your Word had not sustained me with joy I would have died in my misery.”  Some days I feel like the misery might kill me, if not for the indescribable sustenance of my Lord  and Savior.

  • Keep focusing on the upside. Keep focusing on God. Though I may not comment often, I have been following your journey and you have been in my prayers.
