A Respite

Our family’s grief has been a bit overwhelming the past couple days. We cling to hope for a change in the Probation Officer’s proclamation regarding Joel’s contact with the boys. We pray for some relief. And we beg God to let us feel His presence, to know His goodness, and sense His peace and strength.

Tonight God gave us a little gift, a reminder of His goodness. Joel was granted a four hour furlough to take me out to dinner for our anniversary. We actually got to go on a date! It was strange, and beautiful and so therapeutic for both of us–unhurried time together over delicious food, outside the barren walls of a prison visit room. A rare treat, and a precious gift. Our timeĀ  has helped us to begin to gain some perspective. It gave us a chance to grieve, and hope together. And it afforded us the opportunity to remind one another of God’s ultimate good in each and every step of this journey.

  • Bless you both on this “almost” overwhelming journey. My heart aches for you as you both and a family are stretched at trusting Him in this intense storm. Byron has worked at the center for male sex offenders in the State of NE. This is the first step in the “training” once their jail time is completed so we understand some of the hoops that need to be crossed. Not easy for sure…even with God help. We love you kids.
